West Virginia is expanding its medical marijuana program, and thousands of patients are registering for medical marijuana online in West Virginia since the two dispensaries in Weston and Morgantown opened in November 2021.
And alongside the recently opened dispensaries is a new business coming to Huntington, poised to help reduce the opioid epidemic and provide robust education on cannabis for West Virginians.
Cannabis Education Center Opens Doors in Huntington
Women Owned Cannabis Company Opens in Huntington, WV
TerraLeaf is a women owned cannabis company with dispensaries and education resources across the United States.
The President & CEO Chris Visco held a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday night, offering city leaders a chance to tour the education center before its opening on Third Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia.
Visco believes in empowering those affected by the opioid epidemic with tools and resources to help transition away from addiction, offering a valuable chance to learn about alternative therapies and lean them into cannabis as a safer and far less deadly alternative, and it seems to be working.
Reducing Opioid Related Deaths Through Educational Resources
Reportedly, Visco says that through their efforts in Pennsylvania, where they operate the largest cannabis retailer in the state, that they were able to contribute to a 25% reduction in opioid related deaths.
The education center, which sits in a 5,000 square foot building that is set to be divided into an accompanying dispensary, will provide educational resources on cannabis and opioids, and offer cardholder services as well.
According to Torrey Clark, TerraLeaf’s manager, the decision to open the facility in Huntington was due to its ongoing opioid crisis, where overdose death rates are as much as 10 times higher than the national average.
